As many students are approaching their first round of tests and mid-terms, it's easy to feel like you're spending more than enough time in the books but not retaining any of the information you read. Here are some studying techniques that we believe are most effective for you to try: Get organized - get your notes in chronological order and take notes on the same type of paper consistently.  Set a schedule - pick a time and place for what, when, and where you're going to study and GO DO IT. We are much more likely to do something if we plan it out.  Ask questions - don't be afraid to speak up in class or email the professor if their it something you don't understand. Take full advantage of them, chances are you are paying them a lot of money to educate you. Now that college is back in full swing, it's easy to get caught up in class work and not take advantage of all the fun things your university has to offer. Of course class comes first, but sometimes you need to step away from the books and get connected to people through things you actually enjoy. Joining a club, intramural team, sorority, or any school organization can be nerve racking, but you don't have to be an expert in what your joining or know any other members! The cool thing about college is that the majority of us are in the same boat, we want to meet new friends, feel welcomed, be a part of something more than just class, and of course score some free meals. I challenge you to join an organization this semester that your friends from home never expected you to. Some ideas: Become a tutor Intramural volleyball Marketing club Charity fundraisers  Sculpting club Grounds volunteer Steel bridge contest Debate Team Study abroad fair Since rush at your univ
